Inside the cockpit
I’ve spent a bit of time on cockpit details. Nothing too fancy or super-accurate. The gunsight and compass are from Mick Reeves kits- very simple (and cheap) ply and plastic items that make up into a reasonable facsimile of the real things.[Not a valid template]
I scratch built the control column, throttle and mixture levers and chassis handle from balsa, aluminium tube and bits of plastic. I made some placards using Microsoft Word and printing onto photo paper. None of this is very accurate scale, but it will give a fair representation of the interior.
The more I study pictures of the real Spitfires, the more I realise that they are all different in the details!
The external mirror was made from aluminium tube flattened, some sheet aluminium cut to shape and a styrene dome from Mick Reeves. I airbrushed them all, mostly with Tamiya cockpit green.
You can avoid all this work by spending 260 euros and ordering the parts from Inzpan in the Czech Republic!
