An exhausting time

Exhaust stubs
Exhaust stubs

I’ve been putting together the dummy engine exhaust stubs. I need to do this and attach them to the airframe before I can fit the engine firewall. There’s a certain amount of jigsaw-puzzle figuring out to get this stuff to all fit together. The stubs are ABS plastic and fit into laser-cut flanges, then these are screwed onto the longer mountings.

Reeves recommends using thick cyano to glue the ABS, but I’m a bit sensitive to cyano fumes so I used some special acrylic cement we had – Weldon #16 – which works well.  It’s a very fiddly job requiring masking tape to hold them together before the glue is applied. The stubs are hollow – they look very realistic, but also help to exhaust hot air from the motor compartment.
